Winchester Bay

Well known for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area,
Winchester Bay lies in the middle of this outstanding play area,
which rides 40 miles along the coast. Dune buggy or slide on the
hills of sand, or take time to gaze at the ocean below and look for
amazing photo opportunities.

At the mouth of the Umpqua River, 100 feet above the sea, stands
the Umpqua River Lighthouse, its beam stretching 20 miles away
from shore. Originally built in 1857, the first lighthouse was washed
away by the ocean during a storm. The second lighthouse, with the
only colored signal on the Oregon Coast, was lit in 1894. The
stunning glass lens was handcrafted in France and weighs two
tons.

Winchester Bay offers many outdoor opportunities, including Marie
Lake, where you can walk the one mile trail around the lake and
take a dip in the cool waters at the end of the trail. Also try your
hand at crabbing, clamming, fishing, or windsurfing on the river.
Winchester is a place to unwind and enjoy the bounties of nature.
